Selma mayor addresses recent gun violence
Selma Mayor Johnny Moss, III, is addressing recent gun violence in the city following back-to-back homicides last weekend.
Moss held a news conference at Selma City Hall yesterday, joined by Police Chief Kenta Fulford and District Attorney Robert Turner, Jr.
Moss said he wanted to address Selma residents about the city’s response to gun violence.
“They’re tired of this gun violence. We’re tired of it. We need to have a safe city, a safe city for our kids, for our future, for economic development, just for the quality of life for our citizens,” Moss said.
Two people died last weekend. A 34-year-old woman was fatally shot Sunday night in the area of F.D. Reese Street and Eugene Avenue. A 63-year-old man was killed after he was shot the night before in the area of Philpot Avenue and Washington Street.
“In a community of our size, we’re seeing too many deaths due to gun violence. I sat down with the police chief on Monday and we wanted to come out as a united front. And so we wanted to show the community that we hear them and we stand united. And we’re putting this plan together to reduce some of this crime in our community,” Moss said.
