Sheriff Mike Granthum says investigators were able to obtain the warrant after a two-day stake-out at a house located about 8 miles east of Selma.

“During the search warrant they were able to recover 8 gallons of what we call moonshine, prohibited liquor. It didn’t have a stamp. This stuff’s dangerous. I mean it’s real dangerous. There was also a — what we call a flavoring barrel. And what a lot of people do when they make this alcohol, they would put wood in it, like hickory or, and that’s why you see Jack Daniels in the barrels. It actually gives it flavor,” said Granthum.

Forty-five year old Quinton Bennett of Selma has been arrested and charged in the case.

“We’re still in the process of doing further investigation to find out exactly where the still is at, where he’s making this alcohol at. But we know for sure it’s being sold there. Due to the high volume of traffic, he’s been doing it for a while.”

Bennett is charged with Possession of Prohibited Liquors — and Possession of Marijuana 2nd.

Granthum says the case remains under investigation — and more arrests are possible.
