Troy police have arrested a Mississippi man in a fatal hit and run.

It happened around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 21 in the 100 block of US 231 South.

Once officers arrived, they found 59-year-old Annie Laura Cooper, of Troy, in the roadway.

Chief Danny Barron says Cooper was hit by a car and her injuries were consistent with such an impact.

Cooper was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives with the Troy Police Department traveled to Lucedale, Mississippi after receiving leads from the City of Troy.

After obtaining a search warrant for a home in Lucedale, authorities discovered the vehicle involved in the incident and identified the suspected driver.

As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for 45-year-old Malvin Geovany Villalobos-Bonilla.

Villalobos-Bonillas has been charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Death. He’s currently in the Pike County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

During the course of the investigation, authorities say it was determined that Villalobos-Bonilla is from Honduras and is believed to be in the country illegally, for which he has been deported previously.

The Troy Police Department notified Immigration and Customs Enforcement to make them aware of the charge filed against Villalobos-Bonilla and allow them to place a detainer on him.
