CAMPAIGN 2026: Qualifying is underway for candidates wishing to run in Alabama’s Democratic and Republican primaries.
We have already seen a surprise involving State Auditor Andrew Sorrell.

Sorrell, a Republican, has qualified to run for a second term in that office.

The reason that’s a surprise is that he had announced last year that he would run for Secretary of State. That seat is becoming open because current Secretary of State Wes Allen is running for lieutenant governor.

At the moment, it appears the Secretary of State’s race will be between Republican Caroleene Dobson and Democrat Wayne Rogers.

The State Auditor’s race would be between Sorrell and fellow Republicans Derek Chen and Josh Pendergrass.

This could change, because qualifying lasts through January 23, with the primaries on May 19th.
