ACTION 8 UPDATE: The suspect involved in a shooting in Montgomery that also left an ALEA special agent shot has died from his injures, ALEA has announced.

The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Jadarrian O’Neal Clemons of Montgomery.

As Action 8 News has reported, the shooting happened at around 5:51PM yesterday in the 4000 Block of Longleaf Drive in Montgomery, which is in a neighborhood off U.S. Highway 80 near the Montgomery Regional Airport.

ALEA says officers assigned to the Metro Area Crime Suppression (MACS) Unit were at the scene after getting a report that Clemons was a suspect wanted for first-degree robbery. When they saw him riding in a car, they tried to stop the driver, who refused to stop, leading officers on a short chase that ended when Clemons got out with a gun and ran into a shed, ALEA said.

ALEA said Clemons fired at officers, who returned fire. Clemons was hit and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle wasn’t hurt.

A special agent assigned to ALEA’s SWAT Team, who was assisting the MACS Unit, was struck by gunfire several times and was taken to a hospital for treatment. However, the special agent is expected to make a full recovery, ALEA says. The special agent’s name has not been released.

“First and foremost, our agent is currently doing well and is expected to make a full recovery. He showed remarkable courage and composure during an incredibly dangerous situation. Moments like this remind us that behind every badge is a person with a family who waits for them to come home,” ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said. “I am sincerely grateful for the rapid response from our federal, state and local partners who stood behind us without hesitation. That unity speaks volumes about the character of the law enforcement community and those who sacrifice it all to protect and serve our citizens. Please continue to keep our Agent and his family in your thoughts and prayers in the following days.”

The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case. Findings will be turned over to the Attorney General’s office.
