Parade, Pledge Signing to Mark Higher Education Day in Montgomery

Students and educators from across the state will gather at the Alabama State Capitol on Thursday, February 19 for Higher Education Day, an annual event focused on securing future university funding and student resources.

The day begins with a parade at 10:30 a.m., followed by a pledge board signing at 11 a.m. and a community lunch at 11:45 a.m.

The parade will feature mascots, marching bands, flags and students representing Alabama’s 14 public, four-year universities. Afterward, participants will gather at the Alabama State House to remind state leaders that Alabama’s universities provide more than just an education.

Gordon Stone, executive director of the Higher Education Partnership, spoke with Action 8’s Estee Morrison about the importance of the annual event and its role in advocating for continued investment in higher education across the state.
