Sorority alumnae chapter hosts community health & resource expo in Montgomery

Hundreds came by the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl to learn how to live a healthy life on Saturday.

The event highlighted wellness information, financial planning, healthy cooking, and much more. Local vendors and businesses all came out to tell people what their services provide and how to get in contact with them.

Free health screenings were provided to anyone who came, and different organizations were able to advertise themselves as well.

“The most vital thing I think I would say is just the resources provided because a lot of our community members may not be in an area where they have access to these things, so it’s just important for them to come out. We had somebody do an ultrasound screening on the neck to show them about the arteries inside of their body, and we also had a massage therapist here. So, just these things like that they didn’t know that we’re available to them that are available,” said Co-Chair of the Physical & Mental Health Committee, Fredricka Sellers.

“Some people don’t feel like that they will ever own a home because they don’t feel like they’re in the financial position, so there have been people here to speak to them about that and how they may be able to actually do that,” said Kia Wallace, Co-Chair of the Physical and Mental Health Committee.

“This is important because we want to give back to the community with our sorority because there’s a lot of people that don’t have health insurance, clothes, or medical things to fulfill their needs,” said Chair of the Physical and Mental Health Committee, Bernita Zeigler.

The event was hosted by the alumnae chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
