Town council moves forward with bid for new Pike Road fire station
PIKE ROAD, Ala. (WAKA) – The Town of Pike Road is one step closer to getting a new fire station and training facility.
Town Council members awarded the bid to Russell Construction Monday night during their council meeting.
The new fire station will be located on Wallahatchie Road just across the road from their current facility. The 10-acre plot that the facility will be built on was purchased several years ago.
The new facility will be used as not only a fire station, but also a place where local first responders and emergency personnel can get training.
“Now this next stage is going to be building a fire station there with classrooms to help support that training,” says Pike Road Fire Chief Matt Missildine. “It’ll give us the ability to really start to utilize that property the way we really need to, and to invest into our volunteers and our paid members as well for the training that is needed for this growing community that we’re in.”
Construction will get started as soon as possible.
Leaders say they’re excited to improve the services for the community and provide better opportunities for the firefighters.
“I think most of the time, people who move here have this vision of wherever they came from. One of the things we’re excited about is that we want to make sure that whatever they remember about where they came from is that we have equal or better services,” says Mayor Gordon Stone of Pike Road.
Chief Missildine says that he hopes construction will be completed by the Summer of 2027.
