Game, Set, Match: Child Protect serves up tennis fundraiser tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Friday’s cloudy weather couldn’t stop tennis players from going toe to toe on the hard court.

For the second year in a row, Child Protect’s Charity Court Classic Tournament brought people out to the Wynlakes Country Club.

Dozens of teams battled it out on the tennis court for bragging rights and, more importantly, to fund programs that help victims of child abuse and trauma. Organizers say Friday’s event raised $6 thousand.

“It’s important to us that we get the word out about what we do and the services that we offer, so that everybody in Montgomery knows that we’re here and that we’re available if they need us,” said Helen Taylor, development director for Child Protect. “Of course, we don’t want people to need us, but it’s an unfortunate fact that we do. The ladies and gentlemen that are here today are part of the community. They’re leaders in their neighborhoods and the city. We just think it’s important that they are aware.”

Child Protect’s next big event will be their Shindig at the Red Bluff Bar on September 20.
