ONLY ON 8: Political Analyst Steve Flowers breaks down lieutenant governor’s race

ONLY ON 8 (WAKA) – Action 8 Political Analyst Steve Flowers is breaking down the lieutenant governor’s race to help you prepare for the May 19 Alabama primaries.

There are two Democrats and seven Republicans in that race. They are:

DEMOCRATS:
Phillip Ensler
Darryl Perryman

REPUBLICANS:
Wes Allen
Pat Bishop
George Childress
Rick Pate
Stewart Hill Tankersley
Nicole Wadsworth
John Wahl

Flowers says this race hinges on name identification. Democratic candidate Phillip Ensler is a state representative from Montgomery, who is well known in our part of the state. Among Republicans, Wes Allen is known for being the current secretary of state and Rick Pate is known as the state agriculture commissioner.

Flowers says John Wahl, who resigned as head of the state Republican Party in order to run, will also likely be a factor. He says not only did Wahl get the endorsement of President Trump, but he is getting a lot of out-of-state money from the Club for Growth to help propel his campaign.

Still, Flowers believes that Allen has the edge overall, especially because his name will be first on the ballot alphabetically.

Flowers does believe there will be a runoff on the Republican side, which would take place on June 16 with the top two finishers.
