ONLY ON 8: Political Analyst Steve Flowers profiles Alabama secretary of state race

ONLY ON 8 (WAKA) – Action 8 Political Analyst Steve Flowers has insight into the Alabama secretary of state race.

These are the candidates in the 2026 primaries:

Democrat:
Wayne Rogers

Republican:
Caroleene Dobson
Christopher Christian Horn
Glenda Jackson

As with all statewide races, Flowers believes the candidate who wins the Republican primary will also win the general election in November.

He believes Dobson has the edge. She ran for the 2nd District seat in the U.S. House in 2024, and while she didn’t win due to the redrawn lines that favored a Democratic candidate at that time, she built name ID and got campaign experience. She is a member of a sixth-generation Black Belt farming family.

Flowers says the secretary of state is an extremely important position. The person is in charge of state elections as well as regulates businesses, handles trademarks and is the holder of public records and state documents.

With all of the scrutiny over how elections are conducted nationwide, any elections official has become more high-profile. Flowers says that in recent years, the state has had qualified professionals overseeing elections, with Alabama avoiding the controversy that has arisen in other states.
