Long-time Perry Co. Commissioner loses primary by one vote
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
Long-time Perry Co. Commissioner Albert Turner, Jr. has lost his bid for re-election in a race that was as close — as close can get.
Marion businessman Donald Bennett managed to pull out the victory by a single vote.
“It shows the importance of voting. A lot of people took this election for granted — thinking that we were going to win. But we can’t win, if people don’t vote,” said Turner.
Election officials certified the results of the primary election Tuesday at noon.
“I feel tremendous about what I can bring for the county bringing us together,” said Bennett.
“Whether you voted for me, whether you voted for my opponent, that doesn’t matter. We’re one community and we have to come together. We gotta work together.”
It’s not known at this time whether Turner will contest the results of the election — but he has requested a recount.
The democratic nominee in the District 1 commissioner’s race is unopposed in the general election in November.
