PRATTVILLE, Ala. (WAKA) – A food delivery driver has been arrested after the victim in a recent drowning in Prattville has died.

Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson says officers responded to a home on Simmons Road Wednesday night after receiving a report of a possible drowning.

Once they arrived, they found a 16-year-old girl unresponsive in the pool.

The girl was LifeFlighted to Children’s Hospital where she later died from her injuries Friday.

Thompson tells Action 8 News that investigators determined that the victim had consumed a substantial amount of alcohol prior to entering the pool.

Investigators determined that the alcohol had been delivered to the girl by Manoj Chitta, who is in the country on a student visa and working as a delivery driver for a food service.

Authorities say Chitta did not verify the girl’s age prior to delivering the alcoholic beverages and it was also discovered communications between Chitta and the girl occurred outside of the delivery application’s platform.

Chitta has been charged with Sale of Alcohol to a Minor and Criminally Negligent Homicide.

He is currently in the Autauga County Jail.
