Jackson Hospital leadership still hopeful hospital can be saved in recent email to employees

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Action 8 News has obtained an email that was recently sent to staff about what to expect this week.

CEO John Quinlivan told employees that they remain in active negotiations with Blue Cross Blue Shield and that the discussions will continue until June 25 deadline.

Quinlivan said following the deadline, the board will meet to determine the next steps:

“We will communicate next steps regarding whether Jackson Hospital will proceed with closure planning or move forward under the hospital’s approved plan to emerge from bankruptcy. I continue praying for the latter! We appreciate your hard work, dedication, and professionalism during this uncertain time. Please continue to keep Jackson Hospital, our employees, our patients, and our community in your thoughts and prayers.”

Last week, a federal bankruptcy judge denied Jackson Hospital’s request for a preliminary injunction.

The ruling meant that the federal courts would not enforce Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama to pay the same rates to the hospital that Baptist Medical Center South is currently getting.

The hospital, which entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February 2025, says it is running out of money in order to continue operations. It has claimed that BCBS unfairly reimburses Baptist Medical Center South at a higher rate.

It has warned several times since last year that closure was possible. This is the first time that it has attached a date to that warning.
