Prattville High School marching band prepares to march in Philadelphia
PRATTVILLE, Ala. (WAKA) – The Pride of Prattville Marching Band is preparing to march in Philadelphia as part of a celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
Today, the band held a rehearsal parade from the bandfield at Prattville High School to the front parking lot several times to simulate the 2 1/2 mile parade route in Philadelphia. Cheerleaders, parents and spectators were there to cheer them on.
The band is the only one chosen from the state of Alabama to march in the 250th Salute to Independence Parade, which will be held Friday, July 3. But there will also be other representatives from Alabama there.
“It’s really special,” band director Chris King told Action 8 News. “We are one of three state representatives for the state. They are going to have Miss Alabama and then the Azalea Trail Maids from Mobile, and then us right behind them. So us, three in a row that will be representing our state, and to be the only band with all the great bands in the state of Alabama, it’s an honor to be the band representing our state.”
The trip will include 88 band members, 15 parents and four staff members. They are scheduled to leave tomorrow morning about 4AM.
The parade will be televised on C-SPAN, with the band listed as the 40th participant.
After this parade, the band will perform again in another parade in Philadelphia on Saturday, July 4, before going on a tour of Washington, DC. They will return on Wednesday, July 8.
