Where do Montgomery’s homicide numbers stand for first half of 2026?
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – July 1 marks the start to the second half of the year. So where do Montgomery’s homicide numbers stand so far in 2026?
Here’s a look at first-half numbers:
- 26 – 2026
- 32 – 2025
- 38 – 2024
If you multiply this year’s first-half number of 26 by two, we’d be on track to have 52 homicides for the year. Of course, there’s no way to predict that, but if it turned out to be the case, that would be lower than the past several years.
For instance, a prediction of 52 would be lower than the 61 homicides we had each of the last two years, and much lower than the 75 homicides of 2023.
At a news conference last week, Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys said year-to-date, violent crimes are down 15.4%, robberies are down 44% and property crimes are down 19.2%. He says he’s still not satisfied with those numbers as the department works to bring the statistics further down.
