Bertha moving away to the west, routine July weather for our area

As of 10AM Thursday 7/23/26, Bertha was still a tropical storm located near the west Louisiana coast. Due to ongoing strong northerly wind shear, the storm was still asymmetric with the strongest updrafts and heavy rain located southwest of the center of circulation. Bertha continues west Thursday night into Friday, ultimately becoming post tropical then dissipating as it moves inland into Texas.

Meanwhile, our weather looks routine for late July in central and south Alabama. The sky remains partly cloudy Thursday with isolated to widely scattered showers and storms during the afternoon, lingering into the evening. High temperatures range from the low to mid 90s, though heat indices peak near or above 100°. Rain fades away Thursday night. The sky remains partly cloudy with lows in the mid 70s.

Rain coverage could be higher Friday and Saturday, with scattered showers and storms each afternoon. Otherwise, both days looks hot and humid with high temperatures in the low to mid 90s. However, heat indices may peak near or above 100° each day. Sunday’s weather looks similar, with rain coverage at least widely scattered.

Rain chances fall next week, while heat increases at least early in the week. Although, isolated showers or storms remain possible each day. However, high temperatures may approach or reach the upper 90s Monday and Tuesday. Afternoon heat may trend lower late next week, with high temperatures mainly in the mid 90s Wednesday and Thursday. High temperatures could be back in the low 90s next weekend.
