Selma-Dallas Co. community unites for Back to School Bash

The start of the new school year is now less than two weeks away and the Selma-Dallas County community is rallying together to make sure area students are ready to have a productive school year.

The 2nd Annual Dallas Co. City-Wide Back to School Bash — is Saturday Aug. 1st — at the Riverfront Amphitheater in Selma from 9 am to 1 pm.

Marlene Hunter is with the city of Selma.

“It’s a way to make sure that our students have what they need going back to school,” said Hunter.

“Anything that the child would need for school, it’s gonna be on site this weekend.”

Over 40 community organizations and businesses have rallied together to help students and families — get ready for the upcoming school year.

Each vendor has pledged to bring book bags — school supplies — and uniforms to giveaway at the event.

Last year, the event served over a thousand children.

“We’re gonna have free food for all the kids. They can just come out, relax, have a good time and then also know that they’re going to be able to go back to school with what they need.”

Organizers say the combination block party and school supply giveaway — is the perfect way to wrap up the summer — and kick off the new school year.

The entry point for the event is located on Lawrence Street and Water Avenue.

Children must be accompanied by a parent at the event — to participate.

“This is a first-come first-serve basis until everything is gone.”

Students in the Selma City and Dallas County School Districts — head back to school — on August 10th.
