CAMPAIGN 2026: Rhett Marques wins Republican nomination for U.S. House District 2
CAMPAIGN 2026 (WAKA) – The Associated Press has declared that Rhett Marques will win the Republican nomination for U.S. House District 2.
With 99% of precincts reporting, these were the unofficial results:
Rhett Marques 16,411 50% – projected winner
Hampton Harris 7,100 22%
David Matthews 5,716 17%
Joshua McKee 1,537 5%
James Richardson 1,078 3%
Christian Horn 961 3%
Marques, who is from Enterprise, is the owner of a tire and automotive service center who has served in the Alabama Legislature since 2018. He had several endorsements, including from President Trump and U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Alabama).
“The stakes in November could not be higher,” he said after winning the Republican nomination.
Marques will face Democratic U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures in the general election on November 3. Figures was unopposed in the Democratic primary. He is seeking his second term after winning in 2024 when the district lines were redrawn by the courts to give Black Alabama voters a greater chance at representation. The lines have since been drawn back to generally what they had been before 2024.
Action 8 Political Analyst Steve Flowers says this will be one of the most hotly-contested races in the country, with control of the U.S. House of Representatives at stake. He predicts millions will be spent by both political parties to win this seat.
