ONLY ON 8: Political analyst Steve Flowers reacts to Tuesday’s primary election results
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Tuesday’s special primary election wrapped up with no real surprises.
Political analyst Steve Flowers says now that the Tuesday is over, the attention turns to the November 3 general election.
Voters will head to the polls that day to elect a new governor and several other positions, but Flowers says everyone will be watching the Congressional District 2 race with current U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures (D) and State Rep. Rhett Marques (R).
Marques secured the Republican nomination Tuesday after besting five other candidates. Rep. Figures was unopposed.
The voter turnout for the special primary election stood at 5.24% statewide. Flowers says while it was low, it was expected, especially with the extreme heat and schools starting back. He said the turnout will be closer to 50% in November.
