ACTION 8 UPDATE: Name released of suspect in officer-involved shooting in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has now released the name of the suspect in an officer-involved shooting in Montgomery.

The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Marquez Hughley.

As Action 8 News has reported, the shooting happened as Montgomery police attempted to arrest three suspects who were wanted in an assault investigation.

Police say officers were trying to stop a vehicle with the suspects inside yesterday morning. A pursuit ended near the intersection of Birmingham Highway and West Boulevard, where police say the three people ran away.

Investigators say during a foot chase, one suspect, identified as Hughley, pulled out a gun. That’s when an officer fired at him in self-defense, leaving Hughley with a life-threatening injury. He was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment.

No police officers were hurt.

The other two suspects were captured. Police say several high-capacity guns were recovered on scene.
