Alabama State University releases identity of student who died at off-campus facility

Alabama State University has released the identity of the student who died over the weekend at an off-campus University facility.
ASU President Dr. Quinton Ross said Ava Walters was second-year Health Information Management major from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
In a statement, Dr. Ross says, “On behalf of Alabama State University Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, alumni, and students, I extend my deepest condolences to Ms. Walters’ family, friends, classmates, and all who knew and loved her. There are no words that can truly ease the pain of losing a loved one, but please know that the entire Hornet Nation stands with you during the difficult time.”
Action 8 is still waiting to hear back from Montgomery Police about any details surrounding Walters’ death.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Alabama State University has announced the death of a student.
In a statement, ASU says emergency medical personnel had responded to an incident at an off-campus university facility, where the student was pronounced dead. The statement says the investigation has been turned over to the Montgomery Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family and loved ones,” the statement said.
The university says no other details are being released.
