MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The Academy of Craft Training has cut the ribbon for its new Central Alabama campus in Montgomery.

It represents a private-public partnership with the Alabama State Department of Education. The Montgomery campus is the fourth in the state.

The Academy of Craft Training started in 2016 to bring industry and education experts together to launch students into a career in the commercial construction industry. ACT offers commercial construction training with courses in commercial electrical work, HVAC,  refrigeration, mechanical and industrial metal fabrication, welding, plumbing and pipe fitting.

The local campus is starting with 189 11th and 12th grade students, serving nine school districts and 23 high schools. They will finish their training next May.

The academy’s goal is for the students to have OSHA training or NCCR Safety training.

ACT has internship opportunities for the students to job shadow during the holiday, fall and spring breaks to get on-the-job training outside of the training that the academy offers on campus.

ACT will open next year’s class registration for the 2027-2028 school year on October 1. ACT leaders will be recruiting at schools, talking with administrators, counselors and teachers to recruit students for that next year.

The Montgomery campus is located at 3617 Wetumpka Highway, in the CCC Business Park.
