Selma attorney sues former Dallas Co. DA for defamation

A civil lawsuit involving a Selma activist and civil rights attorney — and a former district attorney — is set to heard in court.

Attorney Faya Rose Toure is suing former Dallas Co. District Attorney Michael Jackson for defamation.

The two sides were in court recently for a status review.

The issue stems from a $200 dollar political ad that — Jackson took out in the Bridge Crossing Jubilee newspaper — that he claimed never ran.

Toure says the ad did run — and Jackson looked for the ad — in the wrong edition.

“Wrong year. And he knows it. He’s an educated man, he was a DA for years. This is just deliberate. Her ad is in this paper.” said Toure.

“To be accused of deliberately excluding his wife’s ad, and claiming that I stole $200 dollars from him because the ad wasn’t printed is just unacceptable. It has had an impact on me as an attorney and as a civil rights leader.”

We reached out to Michael Jackson regarding the case — but was unable to get a comment.

The parties are due back in court on November 5th at 1 PM.
