ONLY ON 8: Political Analyst Steve Flowers discusses Republican Party efforts, Tommy Tuberville campaign for governor

ONLY ON 8 (WAKA) – Action 8 Political Analyst Steve Flowers discusses the Republican Party’s efforts in Alabama as well as Republican Tommy Tuberville’s campaign for governor.

Flowers says for Republicans running in Alabama, having the (R) by their name indicates support for President Trump in the mind of most voters. He says Democratic candidates have struggled in statewide races in recent elections because the (D) beside their name has many voters believing they are liberal, like other Democratic candidates and office-holders nationally.

In this year’s election, the person at the top of the state races is Tommy Tuberville, the current U.S. Senator who’s giving up that seat to run for governor. Flowers says Tuberville has tied his campaign closely to Trump. He says Tuberville is not a traditional gubernatorial candidate in Alabama because he didn’t rise through the ranks in student government at Alabama or Auburn nor has served in the Legislature or lower state offices. Above all, he is not a native Alabamian, unlike the state’s governors for decades in history.

Watch the video above to hear more from Flowers as he is interviewed by Action 8’s Glenn Halbrooks.
