Three Alabama prison sergeants arrested after inmate assault
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The Alabama Department of Corrections has announced that three prison sergeants have been arrested following an assault on an inmate by other inmates.
ADOC says the sergeants were assigned to the Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer.
It says the arrests are connected to an October 25 incident, in which an inmate was physically assaulted by other inmates after correctional supervisors received advance warning of the impending assault.
ADOC says Sergeants Neicko White, Michael Underwood and Devontay Jackson failed to take reasonable protective measures.
The investigative findings were presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office Bessemer Division, which authorized criminal charges against all three officers. Arrest warrants were issued, charging each officer with failure of duty or violation of law by guard.
All three were taken into custody late this week. Bond was set at $3,000 each by the issuing magistrate.
