Local Hero Surprises Daughter at Georgiana Talent Show

Only on Alabama News Network–A Georgiana school talent show opens with a show stopping surprise.
Alexis McMeans had no idea what was going on when she’s called on stage as a volunteer at the beginning of her school’s talent show.
Her mother, Tech Sergeant Tonya Gandy’s home, after a 6-month deployment in Afghanistan.
At 15-Alexis is a veteran herself to this, her mothers been deployed seven times.
But after seven painful goodbyes, they say these homecomings..and protecting our country make it worth it.
Tonya Gandy, US Air Force Technical Sergeant said, “I know when my first time leaving and coming back she was like real little, so that’s what she did then. She just stared and looked at me she didn’t know who I was because she was barely a year old. So I missed her first steps and everything, I’ve missed a lot of firsts of a lot of stuff. But it’s worth it though. I spoil her to make up for it”
Both mother and daughter say the first thing they are looking forward to is enjoying a meal together.
