Selma Summer Program Draws Hundreds

From the West Alabama Newsroom–Â The city of Selma is once again helping provide summer jobs for area youth during the summer.
City officials held a lottery at the Selma Convention Center to fill 180 available slots in the annual Summer Youth Employment Program.
Hundreds showed up for a chance to get one of the jobs. Names were drawn randomly — and applicants who were selected had to be present to get the job.
“This program is really good for our youth to give them something to do when they get out of school,” said Selma City Councilman Michael Johnson.
