Virtual Book Drive Celebrates Historic City of Selma

From the West Alabama Newsroom–  Hundreds of books that you — our viewers — helped us raise through our Magic of Storytelling Virtual Book Drive — are presented to officials Selma City Schools.

The book drive celebrates Selma’s historic past by working to a build a brighter future in the city by putting more books in the hands of students.

Alabama News Network teamed up with First Book, Disney, ABC, BMW of Montgomery and you, our viewers — to donate 1800 books to Selma City Schools.

Superintendent Dr. Angela Mangum says the impact will be tremendous.

“We’ll have more books for our libraries and more books for our classrooms,” she said.

“Students can spend as much time as possible with their hands on these books so that they become fluent in their reading and they improve in their comprehension, and when they do all of those things, the sky is the limit for them.”

Mangum says the books will be distributed evenly throughout the eight elementary schools in the district.
