Southlawn set to Construct New Affordable Housing
Habitat for Humanity along with the city of Montgomery and local organizations is working to combat the affordable housing epidemic seen across much of the city.
With a plan to construct approximately 24 units including condos, townhomes, single family homes and small businesses in an open field provided by the YMCA, Habitat for Humanity hopes to create a new sense of community in the Southdown area of Montgomery.
These units that are gonna be here are not only gonna be somewhere for people to live but it’s gonna help revitalize this community and give it a sense of ownership and pride so that we can bring back what once was here, says Susan Johnson, CEO Habitat for Humanity.
New Hope Village Southlawn is designed with the Southlawn community in mind with the goal of breathing fresh life into a sometimes forgotten area. Starting with affordable housing for those approved buyers who are willing to help put in sweat equity for the homes which will have lower monthly mortgages including insurance and yearly property taxes.
No completion date for the project has been set.
