The future for Bullock County’s ambulance provider is currently uncertain. Time may have run out for RCS as Bullock County’s ambulance provider for more than 10 years.

In March of 2015, the hospital board asked the county to reintroduce an occupational tax partially because of the amount it was paying RCS for it’s services. An audit reveals in October of 2014 the board was paying more than $51,000 that month RCS to provide it’s services This cost was close to 3 times the contract amount. The contract stated that the hospital board was to pay RCS $18,000 a month.

The Bullock County Commission did not vote for the occupational tax. According to the hospital board chairman, the board had to then terminate the contract with RCS, effective June 30, 2015. At a meeting Wednesday, four companies submitted bids for the ambulance contract. Out of Care, Excelsior, Haynes and RCS, Haynes Ambulance had the lowest bid with a bill for the county as low as $14,000 a month for it’s services.

No decisions were made at the hospital board’s meeting today. The new awarded contract will be announced at the next meeting taking place on June 22nd. Bullock County’s current contract with RCS will expire on June 30th. Board members assure citizens that there will be no gap in ambulance services.
