Lowndes Co. Job Fair Draws Hundreds of Job Seekers

From the West Alabama Newsroom– The opportunity to find work draws hundreds of job-seekers to a job fair in Lowndes County.
The Alabama Career Center System teamed-up with Lowndes County Public Schools to host the event. The job fair is the second in a series of job fairs that have been scheduled in areas with high unemployment.
“The unemployment rate in Lowndes county is 10.3 percent. And with this job fair today we want to be able to connect job-seekers with the oppourtunities that we have availabl,” said ADOL Commissioner Fitzgerald Washington.
Twenty employers were on-site looking for workers and more than 300 hundred people came looking for jobs.
“I want to better myself,” said Carlos Turner of Montgomery. “I’m working part-time right now so I just want to have e better salary base and just have more benefits.”
Labor officials say job fairs are also planned for Wilcox, Perry and Greene counties.
