Hundreds of members from the nearly 300 African Methodist Episcopal churches in Alabama are wrapping up their week long education conference in Troy.
This year’s conference comes at a time when the nation and AME are reeling after after the shooting in Charleston. Today, Alabama AME church leaders are working to find ways to move forward.
The ninth district’s education congress in Troy targets youth. And many of the younger generation are still trying to make sense of what happened.
James L. Davis, Bishop Ninth District AME Church said, “The reality is when we come to our church we get renewed hope that everything is still going to be alright, still going to be alright. So to kill hope is to kill a generation, to kill a race of people but Charleston has shown that hope can not die.”
AME Church Leaders said they commend the Governor for the decision to take down the confederate flags from the Capitol.
The Bishop and other AME members are on their way for the funerals of the victims in Charleston tomorrow.
