New Bookstore Coming to Troy Montgomery Campus

Troy University leaders announce multiple improvements to the Montgomery campus. Not only will changes be coming to the look of the downtown campus, but also changes to the curriculum offered to first responders.Â
Â
University leaders announced today that the bookstore will be completely redone. In 2016 it will become a Barnes and Noble café serving Starbucks. The area around the downtown Montgomery campus also may be looking much different in the future. Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange says private developers are moving forward with plans to renovate the neighboring Bell Building and the old Jeff Davis Hotel.  The University and city are also partnering to offer more degree options for all department of public safety employees.Â
Â
Chris Murphy,l Montgomery Public Safety Director said, “We’ve been particularly lacking in the fire science area so, we struggle more to have our firefighters these opportunities so they are really willing to come to the table and say how can we do that, working with the state fire college, those kinds of things.”
Â
The city will pay for all or a portion of tuition for all public safety employees from dispatchers to police officers to further their education in a related field.Â
