Selma City Schools Looking to Expand its Transportation Services
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
Selma City Schools is looking to expand its transportation services in the district — to provide school bus pick up and drop off service — to hundreds of students.
Students from School of Discovery — R. B. Hudson STEAM Academy — and Selma High — who live more than two miles away from school — would be eligible.
School officials says the district is still in the planning phase of the project.
They’re creating bus routes — looking at scheduling and staffing needs — and weighing the cost of expanding and sustaining the service.
“We want to make sure we work through all of the kinks first. Because I want it to flow well. Want to make sure that we dot our “I”s — cross our “T”s,” said Superintendent Avis Williams.
Right now, Selma City Schools only provides transportation for students with special needs — and field trips.
The new expanded service would provide rides for between 500 — and 800 students.
