State Department of Education releases 2022-2023 School Report Card
The Alabama State Department of Education has released the school report card on the performance of schools and school systems.
The 2022-23 report card includes public and charter schools statewide. The results are mixed based on factors including achievement, growth, graduation rate, career readiness, student absenteeism and progress in English language proficiency.
In our area, Montgomery County Schools received a D rating.
“We acknowledge the current challenges reflected in our 2022-2023 Alabama State Report Card data and the urgency in which we need to address it,” said MPS Superintendent Dr. Melvin Brown. “We anticipated our results and were not surprised by any of them. As referenced in our MPS State of the Schools address delivered in September, we have already begun to utilize our data to make stark and lasting changes to how we address this work…We have high expectations for ourselves, our district, and, most importantly, our students. We also insist that they have high expectations for themselves.”
The other major school system in Montgomery County, Pike Road Schools, received an A.
“I am excited to see the results of the hard work of our students, teachers, staff, and administration, said Pike Road Schools Superintendent Dr. Keith Lankford. “We have assembled an excellent team at Pike Road whose focus and teamwork show up on this report card. Our success is a testament to our community’s desire for a great school system. Pike Road Schools will continue to strive to improve for our students and our community!”
Other schools systems in the River Region include Autauga County and Elmore County Schools both getting B’s. Dallas County, Macon County and Lowndes County all received C’s and Selma City School received a D rating. Selma City Schools received a C rating last year.
LEAD Academy, a charter school in Montgomery, received a D rating.
