Alabama’s Caleb Downs wins the 2023 Shaun Alexander Award

Alabama Defensive Back, Caleb Downs, was selected as the 2023 Shaun Alexander Award Winner. Downs was one of five finalists for the award, those finalists included; Reuben Bain (Defensive Lineman, Miami), Kevin Concepcion (Wide Receiver, North Carolina State), Noah Fifita (Quarterback, Arizona), and Dillon Thieneman (Defensive Back, Purdue.)
Downs is now the second Alabama Football Player to take home the award. The first member of the Crimson Tide who won the Shaun Alexander Award was Will Anderson Jr. in 2020.
During the 2023 season Downs was named the SEC Freshman of the Week twice and the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Week once. In addition, Downs was also named the SEC Newcomer of the Year. During his freshman campaign Downs led the Tide in tackles while also ranking 4th in the conference with 95 tackles ahead of the Rose Bowl.
