ACTION 8 UPDATE: A former Wetumpka firefighter has pleaded guilty to several child sex-related charges.

Elmore Co. District Attorney CJ Robinson told Action 8 News that John Cole Carter entered guilty pleas to transmitting obscene material, possession of child pornography, second-degree sex abuse, electronic solicitation of a child and enticing a child for immoral purposes.

Wetumpka Police Chief Greg Benton told Action 8 News last year that the child’s father filed a complaint with the police department, which ultimately led to Carter’s arrest.

Carter’s sentencing is scheduled for February 22. Robinson says the maximum sentence is 70 years, but he thinks Carter will probably get 20-30 years behind bars.
