Alabama’s first electric aircraft charging station coming to Montgomery Regional Airport

The Montgomery Regional Airport will soon be home to Alabama’s first electric aircraft charging station.

The airport is working with Vermont-based BETA Technologies to bring the charger here. Alabama Power also served as a partner to power the charger for public access.

The BETA-designed charging stations are capable of powering aircraft and ground vehicles alike. The installations include one Level 3 fast-charger for aircraft and one Level 2 charger located outside the airport fencing, primarily for use by public electric vehicles.

“This is great. This is the future of aviation right here in Montgomery Alabama,” Wade Davis, the executive director of the Montgomery Regional Airport, said. “With this electric aircraft charger, we can now handle a new type of aircraft. We are first in the state to be able to do so, and it’s just a great opportunity to see the future of aviation right here today.”

“This charger joins our network that currently spans 13 states with active chargers at 18 locations and over 55 more in development,” Sam Hobbs of BETA Technologies said.
