Woman sentenced in Lee County home repair scam

A woman has been sentenced in Lee County after being convicted of scamming storm victims.

Court records show Amber McCrory was sentenced this week to a year in jail, plus probation and community service.

She was convicted last year of stealing thousands of dollars from victims of the March 2019 storms that hit Lee County.

Prosecutors say the victims believed she was going to help with home repairs when they signed phony contracts and made down payments.

They say the work was never done.

McCrory was later arrested in North Carolina.

Prosecutors say she’s already paid restitution.
