ACTION 8 UPDATE: Eli Gold joining Nashville Kats Arena Football League team

ACTION 8 UPDATE: It didn’t take former University of Alabama sports announcer Eli Gold to find a new job.

Gold will now be the radio voice for the Nashville Kats when the Arena Football League season starts this spring. He has worked with the arena league before and once was the voice of Nashville’s hockey team.

Gold had been the legendary play-by-play voice of Alabama football since 1988, when the university announced this week that it was switching to Chris Stewart.

The Crimson Tide Sports Network says it offered Gold a chance to stay in a limited role, but it says he turned it down.

Fans have been split on whether it was time for Gold to hand over the mic, or whether the university should have allowed him to continue on his own terms.
