WCCS Aviation Day returns to Craig Field Airport in Selma
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
Hundreds of students from around the Black Belt were at Craig Field in Selma yesterday — for Aviation Day 2024.
Aviation Day is sponsored by Wallace Community College Selma — and Craig Field Airport and Industrial Authority.
Students got a chance to tour and explore over a dozen different planes and helicopters.
There were also flight simulators — and career workshops for students.
The event also launched a new Aviation Pathways program at Wallace — designed to guide students into the high-tech — high paying field of aviation.
“You’re talking about an Air Traffic Controller starting out probably at $130,000 dollars, you’re talking about an airplane pilot maybe starting at $260,000 or $225,000 dollars, airplane mechanic $160,000. It’s, it’s wide open,” said WCCS President Dr. James Mitchell.
Dr. Kyle Searcy — the Founder and President of Blue Star Aviation Team was the keynote speaker at the event.
