Montgomery police say a 16-year-old boy is in custody after a chase involving a stolen car ended in a crash on Interstate 85.
Maj. Saba Coleman told Action 8 News that just before noon, officers tried to stop the driver of a stolen vehicle in the area of Ann and Poplar streets. They say the driver refused to stop and led police on a chase.
Coleman said the chase ended with a crash on Interstate 85 northbound near Ann Street involving the stolen vehicle and a parked vehicle that was unoccupied. She said there were minor injuries.
Coleman said with the help of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Aviation Unit and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the teenager was taken into custody by SWAT and charges are pending. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The interstate was closed but has since reopened.
