Publix opens store in Wetumpka

Wetumpka city leaders gathered to cut the ribbon on a new Publix grocery story on U.S. Highway 231.

The store will serve as an anchor of the Shoppes at Fort Toulouse.

At this morning’s ribbon cutting, Wetumpka Mayor Jerry Willis told Action 8 News the project has been a long time coming.

“This project has been 10 years in the making to get here. It’s been exciting to watch it come together. It took a lot of people a lot of effort to do this,” he said.

The 48,387 square foot store isn’t the only Publix to open in Elmore County recently. A store opened at Camp Grandview Plaza in Millbrook earlier this month.
