The AHSAA has announced the death of Stanhope Elmore Hall of Fame football coach Jimmy Foshee.

Foshee died Thursday night after an extended illness.

“We are truly saddened to learn of Coach Foshee’s passing,” AHSAA Executive Director Heath Harmon said. “His positive impact as a coach and mentor for our high school student-athletes and coaches alike will continue to have a long-lasting effect. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his immediate family, his Stanhope Elmore High School family, to his players and assistant coaches, and to all who were touched by his leadership and wisdom.”

Foshee was head coach at Stanhope Elmore from 1976-1999. The Mustangs compiled a 212-81-1 record, were 12-1 in 1977 and 1979 and 1-3 in 1996. His teams at Stanhope never had a losing season. Three teams went undefeated and all but five made the high school football playoffs, including the last 16 in a row.

His teams advanced to the semifinals four times. He coached in four all-star games, once as head coach. The Millbrook stadium is named in his honor. He was inducted into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2000, the first year following his retirement.

He served on the AHSAA Legislative Council. A graduate of Dadeville High School and Auburn University, Foshee was a leader among the AHSAA’s football coaches for more than 40 years. His son Jeff Foshee followed his dad as head coach at Stanhope Elmore leading the Mustangs to a 105-72 record from 2000-2015. Foshee and his son rank 1-2 for most football coaching wins in school history.

A memorial service will be held for Coach Foshee at Foshee-Henderson Stadium in Millbrook Sunday from 2-4 p.m.
