Alabama Legislature prepares to start 2025 session
The Alabama Legislature will be back in session on Tuesday, with crime and immigration two of the topics on the 2025 agenda.
Action 8’s Political Analyst Steve Flowers says some legislators may be pushing for more funding for ALEA so it can form additional task forces to help support law enforcement in cities that have high crime rates.
Flowers also says it does not look like gambling will be a major issue this session like it was last year. But bills on immigration will be proposed during the 2025 session.
“It looks to me like what’s on the Republican senators and house members agenda are somewhat platitude issues like, ‘let’s have our own immigration program.’ Well, what does that mean on a state level?
“Well, maybe make it harder to get a driver license. I think one thing that has some teeth that the house and Senate Republicans will propose is doing some thing with this horrible drug and crime problem that you have in the cities, particularly Montgomery and Birmingham.”
The session will start with the governor’s annual “State of the State Address.” Gov. Kay Ivey plans to deliver her address at 6PM at the Alabama Capitol. You can watch it on the WAKA Facebook page.
