Valiant Cross wins first-ever AISA basketball state title

The Valiant Cross boys basketball team won its first-ever state title, defeating Springwood 51-42 in the AISA Class AA State Championship.

“We had to come through some adversity,” Valiant Cross head coach Letwan Hall said. “But to be able to get to the finish line with this group, to be a historic moment for this amazing school. It’s so unbelievable.”

Hall said he never had to worry about his team getting into the gym. He had to work harder to get them out of the gym.

“He ain’t lying,” sophomore DeShawn Hall said. “He had to do a lot to get us out of that gym after practice. We were either shooting together or working with each other. Doing drills and stuff. We love the gym, we love the sport,  we love being around each other. It’s just hard to get away.”

DeShawn Hall, a 6-foot-5 guard, led the way for the Warriors with 26 points. He joined Jordan Archie and Evan Richardson on the all-tournament team for Valiant Cross.
