CAMPAIGN 2026: Alabama State Auditor Andrew Sorrell has announced that he will run for secretary of state, which will be an open seat in the election.

Sorrell says he wants to preserve honest elections and protect Alabama’s ballot box from manipulation.

“Alabama needs a committed conservative who will shield our elections from fraud while blocking illegal immigrants and other ineligible individuals from registering to vote,” Sorrell said. “As secretary of state, I will ensure that honestly cast votes are counted honestly, and those who attempt to cheat at the ballot box are caught and punished for their actions.”

Sorrell is a Republican.

He noted that the secretary of state’s office includes more than 1,000 duties, many providing services to businesses.

Sorrell was elected state auditor in 2022. He says he has declined use of the state vehicle, relocated the office’s staff, and left an administrative assistant position unfilled, all of which have combined to provide substantial six-figure savings to taxpayers.

He previously served a term in the Alabama House representing District 3 in Colbert County.

Alabama’s current Secretary of State Wes Allen is running for lieutenant governor, leaving the office open.

Alabama’s primaries are May 19, 2026.
