ACTION 8 UPDATE: Hit-and-run driver in Prattville leads officers on chase that ends in crash in Montgomery County
Action 8 News is following the story of a hit-and-run wreck in Prattville that turned into a police chase.
Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson says it all started when officers tried to stop a vehicle that had been involved in a hit and run on MLK Drive.
Thompson says the driver of the car refused to stop and drove onto Interstate 65 toward Montgomery. The car entered Montgomery County and now state and county law enforcement agencies are pursuing the vehicle in Montgomery County.
By about 4:19PM, state troopers joined Prattville police in pursuit of the car, which was a Toyota Camry. The pursuit continued through the City of Montgomery and surrounding areas.
ALEA says eventually, the driver crashed with a commercial vehicle on U.S. Highway 231. The crash resulted in the injury of the driver as well as a passenger in the car. The driver was taken to Baptist Medical Center South for treatment.
The passenger was transported by helicopter to the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) Hospital for treatment.
A multitude of law enforcement agencies responded to assist with the pursuit as well as the crash. Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol and Marine Patrol Divisions responded, Special Agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), ALEA’s Aviation Unit, Officers with the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit (MACS), Officers with the Montgomery Police Department, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as well as Officers with the Prattville Police Department all assisted during the course of the incident.
