Camden group hosts 2nd Annual STEAM summer Camp

The 2nd Annual STEAM summer camp is underway this week in Camden.

The camp exposes children to hands on learning activities that provide a solid STEAM foundation while making learning fun.

Camper Dea’one Mitchell loves STEAM — so she’s really enjoying the STEAM summer camp.

“Mostly because it’s interactive. I really love this camp. We do a lot of different things,” said Mitchell.

Waka Steamcamp0624 PkgThe lessons Tuesday centered around the forces of gravity — and electro-magnetism.

“Knowledge isn’t really based off something being difficult. It’s about something that is interesting,” said Camp instructor Scott Tibbs.

“It’s not about making something hard. It’s about making something fun and that you want to learn it. And you want to take it on to the next level.”

Tibbs says the goal of the camp is to make learning fun for children and lay a firm foundation to build upon — in STEAM areas.

“There’s a small step that you can take to be a researcher, be a scientist, to be an engineer. And I’m just opening that door for them,” Tibbs said.

The STEAM camp is sponsored by the Blackbelt & Central Alabama Housing Authority — and Estella’s Brilliant Bus.
